James Richard "Bo" Payne, 71, a lifelong resident of Ooltewah, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at the VA Medical Center in Nashville.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star, as well as two Purple Hearts, for his service in the Vietnam War. "Bo" enjoyed keeping his lawn and carpentry, especially using his woodworking skills to make toys for his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Dayton Payne; mother, Nanabelle Green Payne; and his brother, Robin Payne.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Deborah Payne; three daughters: Jennifer Payne White (Waylon), Susan Payne and Michelle Butler (Gene); two sons: James Richard Payne II and Blaine Rogers; two sisters: Jody Forrester, Connie Patterson; five grandchildren: Shellie Butler Lambeth (Joe), Shaelyn and Adelyn White, James Richard Payne III, Taylor Payne; five wonderful nephews; a lovely niece; and three beautiful great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018.
In lieu of flowers for Mr. Payne and family, donations in his memory, to V.F.W. Post 2598, where he was a lifetime member, would be greatly appreciated.
