Joe Hayes Lockett, 87, of Oliver Springs, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at Life Care Center of Morgan County.
We know and we believe that the hope by which he lived is now in full sight.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1930, to Jack and Myrtle Braden Lockett. He was born in Oliver Springs on the property where he has resided all of his life. He attended Scarborough Elementary School. He later graduated from Oliver Springs High School.
Sports were a big part of Joe’s life. He especially loved basketball, which he played quite well.
He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Crass, of whom he is survived. They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was a chemical operator at the K-25 plant until 1998 when he retired. Retirement was only temporary as he went back to work until the age of 81, this time for Homeland Security.
Those who worked with Joe knew his kind and gentle personality. He accepted Christ as his Savior when he was in his 20s. He lived the example of Christ by loving people wherever he went.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Crass Lockett; two children: Joseph (Brad) Lockett and Carol of Oliver Springs, Tammy Lowry and Phillip of Cleveland; four grandchildren: Todd Lockett, Lindsay and Brandon Armes, all of Oak Ridge; Alex and Gina Lowry of Birmingham, Ala.; Kaley and Ben Strawn of Cleveland; and one great-granddaughter, Evelyn Armes of Oak Ridge; and many nephews, nieces and several cousins who he loved dearly.
A special thank you to NHC Oak Ridge nurses and Physical Therapy. Also, many thanks to Life Care of Morgan County and Hospice.
