The Rev. Ronald L. Ledford has accepted the pastorate of Bethel Baptist Church, Old Chattanooga Pike, in Cleveland.
Bethel Baptist was established in 1915 in the Black Fox Community, and is home of the cemetery on Old Chattanooga Pike.
Ledford is undertaking his first church to pastor along with his wife of almost 40 years, Judy. They have two adult sons and their spouses, Daniel and William. Daniel and his wife, Heather, have three children: Emily, Jacob and Casey. William and his wife, Kelly, have two children: Aubrey and Kaitlyn.
Before coming to Bethel, the Ledfords served at Southview Baptist Church for many years as Sunday school teachers, musicians, outreach chaplain, trustee, janitors and many other roles.
“When we walked into Bethel the very first time, we felt the Lord was leading us here,” Ledford said.
The new pastor is a walking miracle himself.
Ledford suffered a massive heart attack in August 2003 and was not expected to live. But, the Lord had other plans for him.
Ledford got involved with the SkyRidge Hospice program and then volunteered in the program.
Ledford is currently holding church services at several local nursing homes and rehab centers in the area.
Ledford was going to the hospital to see members and friends of his church family, and found out the chaplain program at the former SkyRidge Medical Center. He applied to be a chaplain and was accepted. He has served on board now for the past several years, and is currently president of the chaplains at Tennova.
“He ‘works’ hard at taking time for his ‘friends and family’ in the nursing homes, and I believe he will do the same for his church family as well,” Mrs. Ledford said.
“We would like to invite all our friends and family to join us,” the Rev. Ledford said.
The Ledfords invite everyone to join them for Sunday school at 10 a.m, Sunday worship at 11 a.m., Sunday night at 6 p.m., and Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 2514 Chattanooga Pike S.E. in Cleveland.
