Margaret Winegar Whisman

Margaret Winegar Whisman, 95, moved to Heaven surrounded by family Monday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2017, at The Wexford House.

She was born in Fort Blackmore, Va., the daughter of John and Callie Estep Winegar. She married “her Fred” on Oct. 5, 1951, and they were six days away from celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary when Fred moved to Heaven, on Sept. 29, 2017.

She loved her family and her Lord. She grew up playing music with her family. She traveled with her brother, Jube, and sister, Kathleen, sharing music in area churches and on their weekly spot at the local radio station. She loved playing the accordion and piano. After marrying Fred in 1951, she spent the next several years serving her Lord alongside her husband, as he served as pastor in several churches. She completed her career at the Church of God Publishing House in Cleveland. She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God. She was a dietician, and an amazing artist and seamstress. She loved spending time with the Red Hat Society in Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred; a brother, John (Jube) Winegar; a sister, Kathleen Winegar Cox; and her baby sister, who died at birth.

Survivors include a brother, Herb Winegar (Uvelyn), Kingsport; a sister, Helen Kindle (Paul), Blountville; and a sister-in-law, Deloris Winegar, Kingsport; and a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends she has made over the years.

The family gives special thanks to the staff at The Wexford House for extending quality care along with love and compassion. You became cherished family to Fred and Margaret. Also to Wellmont Hospice, thank you for giving extra love and support to her. Helen, thank you for opening your home and heart to love on Margaret for seven years. Herb, thank you for always saying “Yes,” every time she needed you. She cherished her time with each of you.

At her request, a private family celebration will be held. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kingsport Meals on Wheels, 301 Louis Street, Suite 201 Kingsport TN 37664; or Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville TN 37862.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Home of Marion is serving the Whisman family.
