Marjorie “Marge” Melton, 87, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, passed away on Monday morning, Aug. 14, 2017.
She was born on July 25, 1930, to the late JayHew and Bernola Hooper.
She was the owner and operator of Hiwassee Beauty Shop in Charleston for more than 35 years. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: W.R. Hooper, Arthell Hooper, Ruby Hooper Harris, Frank Hooper, Tom Hooper, David Hooper, Paul Hooper, Ray Hooper, Joe Hooper and Leonard Hooper.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband 69 years, Herman Melton; children: Linda Owens (Lee) and Tom Melton (Cathy Coe Melton); grandchildren, Rob Schichtel, Barratt Schichtel and Brian Melton; great-grandchildren: Zane Schichtel, Levi Schichtel, Robin Schichtel, Lola Schichtel and Hannah Melton; siblings: Wayne Hooper and Dorothy Carson; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, from noon until 2 p.m. at Candies Creek Baptist Church, 294 Old Eureka Road, Charleston.
A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2 p.m. at the church with Pastor Stan Gibson officiating.
She will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with Brian Melton, Dennis Melton, Milton Hooper, Charlie Wattenbarger, Herb Hooper and Phil Carson serving as pallbearers.
Donations may be made to Candies Creek Baptist Church in her honor.
