Maxine ‘Micky’ Ward

Maxine “Micky” Ward, 81, of Cleveland, the daughter of Dirk and Kathryn Gezel Rozenberg, was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Monroe, Iowa. Surrounded by family, she passed on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at a local health care facility, after battling cancer for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Wayne Rozenberg.

She graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1954. On April 15, 1955, she was united in marriage with Jerry Ward. During their 62 years of marriage and moves to several states, she created a strong, loving home environment for their growing family. She will be remembered by family and friends as a caring listener, wise counsel, neighborhood barber, neighborhood vet, and kind heart.

She had a unique ability to make everyone feel important and often said that “God don’t make no junk!”

She was affectionately known as “Mimi” to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After raising her family, she also owned a very successful retail business at multiple locations.

Those left to honor Micky’s memory include her loving husband, Jerry; sisters: Norma (Dean) Honnold of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Barbara Briggs of Cleveland; children: Jeff (Karen) Ward of Soddy-Daisy, Lee (Linda) Struble of Rochester, N.Y., and Jodi (Alan) Mullinax and Joe Ward, both of Cleveland; grandchildren: Megan Ward, Andy Ward, Nicholas (Lauren) Struble, Andrew (Karen) Struble, Danielle (Marcus) Lane, Tyler Mullinax, Corey Mullinax, Jake Ward and Carlye West; great-grandchildren: Jimmy Lee Struble, Wesley Struble and Giulian Lane.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Companion Funeral Home, 2419 Georgetown Road N.W.

Final resting place will be in Newton, Iowa, at Newton Union Cemetery where a Remembrance of Life service will be held at a future date.

Her first comment in her final wishes was “Weep not for me as I will always be with you.” She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland.
