Michael Douglas (Mickey) Finley


Michael Douglas (Mickey) Finley, 81, Of Georgetown went home to meet his heavenly Father on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021, at home with his wife of 62 years by his side.

He loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian, faithful member and sound director of Brittsville Baptist Church, until his illness prevented him from attending.

He was born on Aug. 11, 1940, in Knoxville, to the late Ray Leslie Finley and Margaret Estelle (Perry) Finley where he grew up. He graduated from Knoxville East High School in 1958 and from Georgia Southern in 1968. During his lifetime, besides his farm, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, music and most of all his trips to the Western states.

He was employed at Bowater Southern paper mill in Calhoun, until 1968, after that he was employed as a machinist for Southern Railway (Norfolk Southern) retiring in 2000 after 32 years of service. In 2006, he moved from Cleveland to Georgetown after purchasing a small farm which he enjoyed along with his farm animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Leslie Finley and Margaret Estelle (Perry) Finley; grandparents: Albert Fleming Finley and Myrtle Mcmurray Finley, Bruce and Edith Perry; aunts: Helen Goebel and Katherine White; sister, Shirley Pirkle; and brother, David Finley.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Mary Lou (Guinn) Finley of Georgetown; daughter: Kelly Finley of Louisville; three sons: Kevin Finley of Niota, Scott Finley (Diana) of Farragut, and Sean Finley of Deltona, Fla.; grandchildren: Emily (Kevin) Brendel, Connor Finley, Ella Finley all of Knoxville; Haley Rayho of Carter; great-grandson, J.J. Silvers of Carter; sister, Judith Graham; special cousin, Kyle Finley of McMinn County, and Virginia Cannon; several nieces and nephews; all the many church friends, especially Bud Everett, Nathan Myers, Kyla Myers, Matt Myers, and the entire Myers family; very special former co-worker and friend Ronnie Dodds; co-worker, David Rogers; great friend, September Johnson; and special helper, Timothy Caldwell.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at 7 p.m. at Brittsville Baptist Church in Georgetown with Pastor Mike Exline officiating.

The interment will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Fountain City, with family and friends serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 7 at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Mickey’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation,

Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, North Ocoee Street Chapel, has charge of the arrangements.
