Nancy Ownbey Chastain, 84, passed away on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, following a short illness.
She was born to Frank and Sula Ownbey on Aug. 23, 1936, in Cleveland
She married the love of her life, Bill Chastain, on Oct. 2, 1954.
Nancy’s life was characterized by love and laughter, and she radiated the love of Jesus to her family and to everyone she met. Her beautiful smile and ready laughter were recognized by all.
She was known as a prayer warrior and a mentor to so many. She demonstrated Jesus’ love through acts of kindness as she lived a life ministering to and serving others. She was a faithful member of Candies Creek Baptist Church, and meeting with the body of Christ brought her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Sula Ownbey; her sister, Esther Still; and her brothers-in-law: Robert Still, Harold Ballard and Melvin Wolgamott.
She is survived by her sisters: Frankie Wolgamott and Betty Ballard. Nancy leaves behind her much-loved husband of 66 years, Bill Chastain. Her love will be missed by her children and their spouses: Jennie (Jeff) Davis, Sula (Steve) Coleman and Bill (Amy) Chastain.
Nancy was a wonderful grand-mama to her seven grandchildren: Ben (Tracey) Davis, Christa (Barry) Williams, Matt (Jackie) Coleman, James (Lindsay) Davis, Caleb (Lauren) Chastain, Jonathan Chastain and Elizabeth (Frank) Perez. She was adored by her 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and all of her cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, at Candies Creek Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Due to COVID-19 regulations and concerns, this will be an outside service in the pavilion and there will be no visitation. Please feel free to bring your own lawn chairs for more social distancing, and be sure to dress appropriately for the weather.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to two ministries Nancy was passionate about: Candies Creek Baptist Church Missions or Relational Healing Ministries, a nonprofit ministry of counseling and discipleship at 16555 Highway 95 North Greenback, TN 37742.
