North Cleveland Baptist provides unique approach to Vacation Bible School

Posted

From June 18 through 22, North Cleveland Baptist Church will launch Bradley County's most unique vacation Bible school ministry for kids! This year it is titled "The Legend of the Vita Lights." It is based upon Jesus’ words in John 8:12: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

Each day of VBS begins with exciting songs and a scene from the full-production drama of “The Legend of the Vita Lights.” In the story, a small Midwestern town becomes a tourist attraction when mysterious lights appear from an old abandoned mine.

Mr. Bailey, a local storekeeper, knows the secret to the lights but does not reveal it. He prefers that they remain undisturbed because they represent the relationship between Jesus and His followers. But all goes awry when a sinister business owner named Simon plans to steal the source of the light for power and money.  Mr. Bailey, along with four teenagers named Lindsey, Alex, Ann, and Tommy, set out to stop Simon, save the lights, and show the love of Jesus.

“Once again we are proud to offer a vacation Bible school experience different than any other area church,” said Lanny Green, minister of Worship at the North Ocoee Street congregation. “Extraordinary work has gone into the drama that communicates the theme of the week.” Over the past month volunteers from the congregation are transforming the regular platform of the church sanctuary to accommodate the complex theatrical scenes. More than two dozen cast and crew members are finishing preparations for their roles. The daily drama includes humor, adventure, life-size puppets, and impressive special effects. Together, all these will engage children of all ages. Age appropriate Bible lessons, crafts, and even recreational games reinforce the Christian values presented each day.

Young people between 4 years old and those just finishing the fifth grade are welcome to join this great week. The excitement begins each morning at 9 and finishes at noon. Families should plan to arrive early on the first day. A complete encore of the dramatic production will take place on Friday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
