Perry Alvin King

On Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, Perry Alvin King, 74, of Cleveland, went to his heavenly home after a brief illness. He was at his home surrounded by loving family.

He was the son of the late Glenn and Alma Mae Belcher King and was also preceded in death by his brother, Troy, and sister, Wanda Mae King.

He was retired from Olin Chemical after 40 years and was a faithful member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church. He was a dedicated and active member of the Gideon’s International, North Camp, for 17 years. He loved old cars and was a member of the Cherokee Valley Region Antique Car Club.

He loved his family and enjoyed traveling with his wife and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved restoring his 1931 and 1964 Chevrolets and showing his 1929 Model A Shay in parades and antique car shows. He enjoyed speaking at numerous local churches for the Gideon’s and sharing their ministry. He was known for keeping an immaculate and well manicured lawn, for helping others, and was an avid Tennessee Vols fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Shirley King; his daughter, Holly Womack; his sons, Les Gray, and wife, Veronica, and Greg Gray, and his wife, Janet; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five godchildren; and other extended family members.

Graveside service will be held Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Center Point Baptist Church Cemetery on Lower River Road, Charleston, with Jason Butte officiating.

Pallbearers are his grandsons: Chip Gray, Todd Gray, Brad Bales, and two of his godchildren: Al Jenkins and Jon Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers are Gideon’s from the North Camp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Perry’s memory to The Gideon’s International, North Camp, P.O. Box 556, Charleston, TN 37310.

We offer sincere thanks and gratitude to Hospice of Chattanooga for the outpouring of love, care, and support shown for Perry and his family during this time.
