With deadlines approaching for paying property taxes, the Bradley County Trustee’s Office has announced tax-collection satellites for the next two Saturdays.
“The satellite locations have been very popular over the years with taxpayers,” said Mike Smith, trustee. “In some instances, they have eliminated the need for citizens to come to the Courthouse, or in the case of this year our temporary location, to pay their property taxes.”
Because of their neighborhood locations, the satellite sites allow home- and property owners to pay their taxes closer to home.
The Trustee’s Office launched the concept of satellite locations in 2007. Officials modified that procedure in 2012 to allow satellites to be open simultaneously on the same Saturday.
The list of satellites for Saturday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 24, include:
• Oak Grove Elementary School, Feb. 17;
• Hopewell Elementary School, Feb. 17;
• Waterville Elementary School, Feb. 17;
• Bradley Square Mall (near the fountain), Feb. 17; and
• Bradley Square Mall (near the fountain), Feb. 24.
All Saturday satellite locations will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. To pay at a satellite location, taxpayers must bring with them their tax statement, along with a personal check. No cash will be accepted.
Also on Saturday, Feb. 24, the Trustee’s Office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon to accept property tax payments.
The temporary site for the Trustee’s Office, which was established after the Bradley County Courthouse fire last year, is located at 1701 Keith Street. It is housed in the old SouthEast Bank building at the corner of Keith and 17th streets.
“Over the years, we at the Trustee’s Office have worked in partnership with Bradley County taxpayers to find ways to improve the process for paying property taxes,” Smith said. “One of the greatest successes has been the partial payment program, as well as the tax freeze and tax relief initiatives.”
He added, “But before partial payment came along, we instituted the tax satellites and they made transportation much simpler. Now, instead of traveling downtown and trying to find parking spaces near the Courthouse, taxpayers have been able to visit a satellite a little closer to their homes: Oak Grove, Hopewell, Waterville or the Bradley Square Mall.”
Although the Courthouse has been out of the loop for this tax-paying season, Smith said the satellites still provide a geographic advantage over the temporary office.
Questions should be directed to the Trustee’s Office at 728-7247.
Deadline for paying Bradley County property taxes is Wednesday, Feb. 28.
