Thomas Rakestraw


Thomas Neil Rakestraw, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Joyce Rakestraw, as well as by his parents: Bennet and Vernice Rakestraw; and brothers: Jack and Dan Rakestraw.

Survivors include his children: Jane Branam, and her husband, Randy, Gina Varnell and husband, Warren, Toge Rakestraw, and his wife, Becky, and Timmy Rakestraw and Candy Brown; six grandchildren: Leah Stevenson, Joe Branam (Ashley), Ben Branam (Tammy), Kyley Rakestraw, Kiefer Rakestraw (MeKalah), and Kassidy Penny (Jordan); two great-granddaughters: McKenzie Stevenson and Promenade Rakestraw; one great-grandson, Harrison Penny; and numerous other extended family and a host of special friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday,  from 2 to 4 p.m., at Companion Funeral Home, located at 2419 Georgetown Road N.W.

The celebration of life service will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018, at the funeral home, with Pastor James Massengale officiating the service.

Following the service, he will be laid to rest in the Pine Hill Presbyterian Cemetery, in McDonald, with Seth Flowers, Tommy Suits, Daniel Massengale, Kiefer Rakestraw, Mike Holden, and Warren Varnell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald “Booger” Davis and Jerry “Rock” McConnell.
