Tony D. Gates


Tony Dewayne Gates, 46, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, in a local hospital.

He was born to George and Diane Gates in Cleveland, the eldest of two sons.

He was a 1989 graduate of Bradley Central High School and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he was on the audio team. He had a great love for the mission field in which he was a regular participant. He found great joy in helping others and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Joe Dale Gates; his grandparents: Lonnie Gates, David Thompson and Ann Thompson; his aunts: Freda Wilson, Millie Gamble and Judy Gates; and his uncle, Billy “Catfish” Ledford.

He is survived by his parents, George and Diane Gates; his grandmother, Edith Gates; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services, Wildwood Avenue Chapel, with the Rev. Homer Roberts and Pastor Jonathan Powell officiating.

The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Wesley Gates, Stevey Gates, Aaron Woods, Brian Thompson, Jeff Gates, Tim Wilson, Jimmy John Giles and Christopher Patterson serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends today, from 5 until 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family requests donations be made in his honor to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4452 Bates Pike, Cleveland, TN 37323.
