United Christian Church camp meeting begins Sunday
The 44st Annual United Christian Church and Ministerial Association’s camp meeting will begin Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
Each year, delegates from across the nation and the world converge on Cleveland for this time of fellowship and spiritual renewal.
The Rev. H. Richard Hall, founder of United Christian, settled in Cleveland as a central location for the revival in 1952. In 1974, an annual camp meeting/minister’s convention was begun during the week of July 4.
“Oh, what singing, shouting and preaching was heard. The big loudspeakers broadcast the gospel message,” a spokesman for the church recalled.
In 2001, UCCMA Camp meeting was held for the first time in the Peerless Road facility. The services were still jam-packed with men and women from all walks of life. Christian camaraderie was still the norm as people prayed and worshiped together.
“The Holy Ghost power rained on all in attendance,” the spokesman said.
“This is our spiritual heritage — tongue-talking, shouting, praise and worship, anointed singing, second-to-none music that stirs the soul, deliverance, healing, powerful preaching, word of knowledge, prophecy — it’s part of who we are in Christ,” he said.
“On July 1, when camp meeting 2018 begins, we will once again join with our brothers and sisters and believe for a mighty move of God. He’s never let us down before and we believe, the power of God will show up this time, as well,” the spokesman said.
Speakers will include Patrick Hayes, Hans Hess, Albert Hepburn, Jerry Barnard, John Autry, Leon Batchelor, Gene Wiseman, Danny Emerson, Michael Chapman, Brandon Blevins, Mitch Rhoden, Dallas Vines, Leonard Hodge, Ed Dean and Toro Townley. Dean and Townley will speak at the annual Minister’s Fellowship Breakfast on Saturday, July 7, at 10 a.m.
Special singers include Kent Clifford Cooley, Charlie Griffin, Ricky Perkins, The Cargils, Linda Click and gospel recording artist/songwriter Betty Jean Robinson. Musicians will Sandy Cargil and Matt Love. President Don Warren will be at the Hammond B-3.
Camp meeting will continue through July 7 with two services daily — 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A free meal will be offered to attendees following each service.
Youth Ablaze services for ages 5 to 12 will be offered each morning at 10 July 2 through July 9 in the Church Chapel. The children will worship in an organized, fun, safe and Spirit-filled environment. There will be fun games, dynamic worship, drama ministry, powerful messages and encouraging testimonies led by Pastor Mitch and Sandra Rhoden and family.
The Minister’s Fellowship Breakfast will take place at 10 a.m. July 7. All ministers and their spouses are invited to attend.
During this camp meeting Warren’s new book, “God’s Miracle Organist Leads the Way Forward,” will be available.
The services will be held at United Christian Church, 2200 Peerless Road.
