Vernon "Bernie" Robert Harris Sr., 64, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, in a Chattanooga hospital.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pa., he was a well-known musician in the Cleveland-Chattanooga area. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church, both in Cleveland, where he blended his musical talent in praise and worship. He was employed for 26 years with Salter Candy Company in Chattanooga, as a truck driver. He served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his four sons: Vernon Robert Harris Jr., Cenneca Harris, Chavell Harris and Chevez Harris, all of Chattanooga; one sister, Serena Harris, of Cleveland; and two brothers, Nordine Harris, and James Harris. both of Philadelphia, Pa.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward S. Robinson delivering the eulogy.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
