Every year for almost 100 years, the people of Cleveland and Bradley County have helped their less- fortunate neighbors put a Christmas dinner on the table. The William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund each year raises money to fill the baskets or more correctly boxes of staple foods.

These staples will offer the needy a chance to not only have a Christmas dinner but food during the holidays. You can help by donating to the Basket Fund, which is a tax-deductible nonprofit fund.

While at the beginning the effort to put meals on the table was shepherded by civic and church organizations, for the last few years the Basket Fund has been a volunteer effort. Volunteers provide the manpower and collect the food and the community provides the funds. Every penny collected for the Basket Fund goes to the purchase of food, according to a spokesman.

So far, $8,000 of the $24,000 goal has been collected. This week an additional $2,575 has been collected to bring the total to $10,575.

Giving this week were Cleveland Head & Neck Clinic, P.C., $400; anonymous, $1,200; Leonard and Martha Thurman, $75; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thompson, $250; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Matthews, $100; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Tillery, $50; Gary and Jodi Riggins, $100; Carol Farley, $100; Queen of Heave Council No. 4572 Knights of Columbus, $200; and Vina Herron and Jenifer Williams, $100.

If you would like to help your neighbors by contributing to the William Hall Rodgers Christmas Basket Fund you may mail or drop off the donation at First Tennessee Bank (P.O.
