The Caring Place is a local nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing and assistance to residents in need.
To make the food drive exciting for students, TCPS had a food design competition. With the competition, students and parents used their canned and boxed goods to construct unique structures. The structures were then photographed and voted on during the school’s fall festival. Once the votes were all in, the kindergarten class came out on top of the People’s Choice Award with their piece titled, “Hunger Is Unbearable.”
In addition to this competition, there was also a heated race to find out which class would bring in the greatest amount of food per student. The first place award for this competition went to the fifth-grade class, which sent in 550.2 pounds of food total, averaging out to 32.36 pounds per student.
