Vandals struck the construction site of the new Cleveland Municipal Airport overnight overturning heavy equipment and causing other damages.

Detectives and patrol deputies from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office were enroute shortly after the incident was reported at 7 a.m. today.

Details are few, according to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for BCSO.

According to Gault’s initial reports, vandals utilized an on-site track-hoe to overturn a D-8 Caterpillar bulldozer.

Other heavy equipment on the site sustained damage as well, Gault said.

As additional information becomes available, it will be posted on www.clevelandbanner.com. and the Cleveland Daily Banner Facebook page at facebook.com/cleveland-daily-banner.

Wright Brothers Construction Company of Charleston is the general contractor for the first two phases of the airport’s development. Phase I has been completed and the second phase is starting up. Wright Brothers was awarded the second-phase contract in a recent meeting of the Cleveland Airport Authority.
