Roy “Dick” Elmer Burns, 81, of Benton, died Nov. 23, 2010, at the family home.

He was a member of Old Ocoee Baptist Church.

He was employed for more than 55 years at Simpson Construction and Simpson Bridge Co., where he was respected for his strong work ethic. He enjoyed his retirement years working around his farm.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Burns; beloved grandfather, George M. Burns; sisters: Dorothy Day and Pauline Qualls; and brother, Glenn Burns.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary M. Burns of Benton; daughters and sons-in-law: Darla and Larry Jenkins of Delano, Rhonda and Darrell Morgan of Cleveland and Joda and Greg Clark of Cleveland; grandchildren: Nathan Morgan, Emily Morgan, Caroline Clark and Natalie Clark, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted today, Nov. 24, 2010, at 7 p.m., in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with his great-nephew, the Rev. Steve Ross, officiating.

Interment will be Friday at 11a.m. in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home prior to the service.
