Relay for Life of Bradley County recently held its annual kickoff event for the 2010 - 2011 Relay Season and celebrated raising more than $275,000 for the American Cancer Society during the 2009 - 2010 season. Special awards were presented to the following teams for their 2010 performance: Most money raised overall, Arch Chemicals and Walker Valley High School; Most money raised by a corporate team, Arch Chemicals; Most money raised by a noncorporate team, Cleveland City Schools; Big Leap Award (largest increase over previous year), Olin Chemicals; Most money raised by a new team, The Wright Brothers Dozers; Most money raised by a school, Oak Grove Elementary. Fundraising Club Award winners recognized included: Emerald (raised over $25,000), Arch Chemicals and Walker Valley High School; Sapphire (raised over $15,000), The Wright Brother Dozers, Olin Chemical, Eaton Corp., Cleveland City Schools, Life Care and Associates; Jade (raised over $10,000), Home Health Care of East Tennessee, Oak Grove School; Platinum, Guardian home Health, Walmart North, Flowers Bakery; Gold, Clingan Ridge Baptist Church, SkyRidge Hospital, River County Association of Realtors, United Community Bank, Peytons, Bank of Cleveland, Cleveland Utilities; Silver: Team Relentless; Bronze, Internal Medicine Group, Bi-Lo, Surviving with Sheila, Local 899, West Cleveland Baptist, Bradley High Wrestling, Krueger/Blue Ridge Oncology, Cleveland Regional Cancer Center, First Baptist Church, Benton Station Baptist, Farm Bureau; Rising Star: Mars, Family Home Care & Hospice, COPE, Amedisys, Mountain Laurel Studios, Williams Chiropractic, Constant Companion, Skin Cancer Center, Cleveland Dental, South Polk Elementary, Advocates for a Cure (Logan and Thompson Attorneys). The American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
