William “Joe” Hutsell, 81, of Riceville, died Monday afternoon at Fort Loudoun Medical Center in Lenoir City.

A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late William Clyde and Sarah Hackler Hutsell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Jean Wade Hutsell; a sister, Catherine Elliott; and brothers: Bennett, John, and Charles Hutsell.

He is survived by one daughter, Stacy Hutsell of Etowah; one son, Andy Hutsell of Riceville; three sisters: Betsy Elliott, Blanche Landers and Winnie Axley, all of Athens; and two brothers: Don Hutsell and Roy Hutsell, both of Athens.

He was a member of Clearwater Baptist Church and of the Athens Goodtimers Square Dance Club.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was associated with Bowater until his retirement.

A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Hutsell officiating.

Interment will be Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at 1 p.m. in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday, 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the services.
