Mt. Juliet High School (Tenn.) senior outfielder Kristin Meisel recently signed scholarship papers with coach Emily Russell and the Lee University softball team.

Meisel hit over .600 as a junior for the Lady Bears and head coach Kacey Pedigo during the 2010 season. She also stole 24 bases. An honor student, she plans to study forensic science at Lee.

The Lady Flames are coming off a 57-5 season and coach Russell sees Meisel as fitting into the outfield plans in the spring of 2012. “Kristen is a very talented student athlete,” said Russell, who has turned the Lee program into an NAIA powerhouse.

“She has great foot speed and has tremendous instincts on the base paths,” the coach added. “In watching her play, she reminds me of some of our best base runners with her instincts and aggressive style of play.

“We are losing four senior outfielders and are seeking to continue to improve our team speed. Kristin should be able to help us with that upon her arrival in the fall of 2011,” coach Russell added.

The Lady Flames are scheduled to open the season Feb. 11 against Friends University in Belhaven University’s Sweet 16 Tournament.
