The competition, held by Southern Adventist University, was established in 1990 to feature gifted young musicians in performance with a full orchestra.
Lo and Wang, both originally from Taiwan, are students in Lee University’s School of Music.
Lo transferred to Lee from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, in 2008 to join the studio of Ning An, assistant professor of music at Lee.
From an early age, Lo won numerous competitions in her hometown of Taipei. Most recently, she placed second in Stillman College’s Zelpha Wells Piano Competition in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Wang started taking piano and violin lessons at the age of 10. In 2006 she was accepted into the studio of Dr. Gloria Chien, associate professor of music at Lee.
She received honorable mention in 2007 and 2009 at the Zelpha Wells Piano Competition. Apart from playing piano, Wang has been actively involved in the Lee University Strings Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra as the principal second violinist and second violinist respectively.
Winners Lo and Wang will be featured in a concert with the Southern Adventist Symphony Orchestra on Jan. 30 in Collegedale.
