Billie Ann Arthur, 84, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at her home.

She retired from Cleveland City Schools in 1988, where she taught for 35 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church for 55 years and was in the St. Andrews Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the May Dooley Women’s Circle and a charter member of the ADK Teacher’s Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Melinda Guffey Snyder; and sisters: Margery Miller, Geneva Banta and Sarah Fenwick.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, A.J. Arthur; son, Tommy Arthur and wife, Mary, of Cleveland; two grandchildren: Kellye Renker and husband, Todd, of Knoxville and Scott Arthur and wife, Sally, of Franklin; three great-grandchildren: T. J. Renker, Jamison Arthur and Will Arthur; sister, Betty Joe Curbow; several nieces and nephews, including Cindy Phillips and husband, Kenny, who have been her loving care givers.

The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Drew Henry and the Lu Crandall officiating.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Kenny Phillips, Boyd Pollock, Gene Officer, Greg Calfee, Dan Cook, David Smith and Lebron Hollingsworth serving as pallbearers.

Member of the St. Andrews Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
