Three teachers from Cleveland Middle School attended a two-day workshop, “Making Algebra Child’s Play.”

The teachers learned techniques to incorporate manipulative into the teaching of algebra.

Teachers who attended the workshop were Linda Faulkner, Nicole Lavigne, and Ashley Meagher.

The school received a free hands-on algebra kit for taking four students from Cleveland City Schools to serve as a demonstration classroom for the workshop. The students were taught to solve algebraic equations using the Borenson method. At the end of the 45-minute demonstration, fifth- and sixth-grade students were solving equations such as: 3x + 4 = 5x + 2.

The students who attended the workshop were George R. Stuart Elementary students Olivia Calfee and Rheagan Hall and Cleveland Middle School students Chandler Roman and Parker Tullier.

The workshop was held Dec. 7-8, and presented by Borenson and Associates.
