RINGGOLD, Ga. — Bradley Central’s top-ranked wrestling team had its toughest match of the season Tuesday night, having to win the final three matches to keep their record unscathed during a trip to the Peach State.

Trailing 27-24 heading into the heavyweights, the Bears swept the upper divisions to pull out the 37-27 victory over the new Heritage High in Ringgold, Ga.

Bradley won nine of the 13 contested matches, but only two were by pins, while three Bradley wrestlers had their shoulders put to the mat in their closest battle of the season to push the Bears’ current winning streak to 142 dual meets, including a 13-0 mark this campaign.

Coach Steve Logsdon’s team will travel to Soddy-Daisy Saturday to participate in the Soddy Showdown.

Bradley got a 31-second pin from second-ranked Ethan Hames in the 125-pound match and Tucker Bolton, who is also No. 2 in the current state rankings, got the referee to slap the mat at the 2:23 mark of the 215-pound match for the only full six-point wins for the Black-and Gold-Tuesday evening.

Aaron Hutson earned a 16-1 technical fall for the Bears at 119, while sixth-ranked Dakota Ream (103) and third-ranked Tyler Schuch (135) both won major decisions. Ream posted a 9-0 win, while Schuch stopped his opponent 12-2.

Tyler Pitts, also No. 3 in the state rankings, took a 4-1 decision for Bradley at 140, while fifth-ranked Jacob Bailey won 8-3 at 160. Devin McCulley was a 10-7 winner at 189 and No. 1 ranked heavyweight Patrick Benson recorded an 8-1 win for the Bears.

In the match of the night, defending Georgia champion Cory Canada edged Bear co-captain Bradley Colbaugh, No. 1 ranked in Tennessee, 4-3 in four overtimes in the 152-pound battle.

The Generals also added pins at 112, 130 and 145 to go along with picking up a forfeit at 171 to round out their scoring. Heritage is now 27-5 on the season.
