He was retired as owner/operator of Jack Owen Grocery Store after 40 years of business.
He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed being outdoors.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a member of the 825th Tank Destroyer Battalion and saw action in England, France and Germany. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Minerva Shields Owen; and his sister, Thelma Woods.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Jones Owen of Cleveland; daughter, Misty Eubank and husband, Charles, of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Jason Crowe and wife, Amanda, of Decatur, Ashley Eaton and husband, Steven, of Cleveland and Chase Eubank, of Cleveland; four great-grandchildren: Ayden Eaton, Trace Eaton, Emilee Perry and Alex Gann; nephew, Dallas Woods; and niece, Pat Wilson.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard McKeehan officiating.
Interment will follow in Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
Jason Crowe, Chase Eubank, Steven Eaton, Terry Jones, Robert Wilson III and Bill Watson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be George Martin, Boyd Bishop and Charlie Eubank. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
