MOMS Club — mothers offering mothers support — invites all SAHMs to come out Friday to the YMCA for the club’s first meeting of the year, and to celebrate its first anniversary. There will be food, prizes, and new people to meet. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m, and free childcare is provided!
The club was founded by five newly acquainted SAHMs who were looking for an outlet to be around others who were in similar life stages. After much planning — with help from the national organization — MOMS Club of Cleveland finally came to fruition in January 2010.
Stay-at-home mothers, whether full-time or part-time, need opportunities to be involved in activities that are geared toward their special interests, and fun and engaging for their children. Children are welcome at most activities, and most activities occur during the day, when SAHMs most need support from other SAHMs.
Once monthly is MOMS Night Out. This is a chance to have dinner with friends without having to change a diaper or fill a juice cup.
Other monthly activities include field trips to area attractions, How To ... seminars, and a new weight-loss group. SAHMs can also get involved in Book Club, where moms discuss a literary selection at a member’s home; Lunch Bunch, where moms meet to eat and socialize while their children eat and play; and playgroups, where age-specific activities are provided for children to encourage relationships early on.
Moms can also expect to be involved in some sort of service project, whether extending a “helping hand” in providing a meal for a mom with a new baby, or contributing to an organized collection of goods for a local charity.
MOMS Club is not limited to mothers of preschool-aged children. Moms with children in school also need support for the early onset of empty-nest syndrome.
Monthly meetings are held the last Friday of the month, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cleveland YMCA. Childcare is provided free, while members discuss current business and the upcoming month’s activities.
