Stephen Allen “Sleepy” Goins, 49, of Cleveland, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at a local hospital.

He was a native of McMinn County and a resident of Cleveland for 20 years.

He was a son of the late James William Goins Jr.

He was a member of North Athens Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Alice Ratledge Goins of Riceville; daughter, Cayla Goins of Ocoee; brothers: Charles Goins of Cleveland and Sam Goins of Riceville; sister, Imogene Carr of Nichols, Ga. ; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Duane Hamby officiating.

Interment will follow at Buttrum’s Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Charles Goins, Sam Goins, Billy Joe Goins, C.J. Goins, James Bussey, James Bussey Jr. and Randy Carr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
