The trial of two people reportedly involved in the shooting death of a 17-year-old man at Mosby Park in 2009 is expected to get under way after jury selection is made today.

Aston Smith was shot and killed Aug. 16, 2009.

Darius Dewight Twitty and Terrance Armstrong were originally charged with first-degree murder and facilitation to commit murder, according to court records.

According to reports, emergency responders and police were dispatched to the park just before 10 p.m. that night.

Dispatchers had received a 911 call indicating a man had been shot in the chest.

Police arrived on the scene and found Smith lying on the ground.

They received information the alleged suspects had shot the victim and fled the scene driving a green Chevrolet Impala.

Paramedics worked to save Smith’s life but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after his transport for treatment.

According to reports, Cleveland Police Department officers Scott Criddle and Phillip Ross performed a traffic stop on a southbound Interstate 75 driver of a car matching the suspect vehicle description.

Twitty and Armstrong were taken into custody along with two unidentified females.

Twitty and Armstrong were charged with the shooting the next day, according to reports.

Twitty was 18 years old at the time of the shooting and Armstrong was listed as being 16 years old at the time but is being tried as an adult.
