Cleveland detectives are attempting to identify a woman who is reportedly “scamming” cashiers in local department stores by identifying herself as an employee.

Cleveland Police Department detectives Steve Ross and Matt Jenkins are working on two separate cases where the woman approached cashiers and told them she was a loss prevention employee of the store. The woman has also identified herself as a manager in training.

A report filed by officer Chris Llewallen indicated she entered one store and told the cashier she was the manager in training and the cashier was to meet with the store’s manager at another location to receive an award. The cashier reportedly left her post and the register.

When she returned, cash drawers had been emptied.

Ross noted two department stores locally have been the target for the woman.

Evidence has been recovered during the investigation.

Video surveillance cameras captured the woman in the act, according to Ross, who provided a still photo of the suspect.

“We want to catch this suspect, but we also want to make sure proprietors are aware of what has happened,” said Ross.

Anyone with information or who can identify the suspect is asked to contact Ross at 303-3120.
