He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Verdie C. Shepherd; paternal grandparents, Ed and Lily Payne; and uncle, Jimmy Shepherd.
He had been a plumber most of his life and was owner and operator of Aardvark Plumbing. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Renee Payne of Old Fort; son, Tyler Haney of Old Fort; daughters: Amber Renee Payne and Gloria Ester Payne, both of Old Fort; his mother, Stella Frances Howard of Georgetown; his father, Hoyt Edward Payne of Grundy, Va.; his brothers: Richard Payne of Georgetown and Tommy Shortridge of Grundy; his sisters: Amanda Prince of Benton, Lisa Green and Samantha Lester, both of Grundy; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Wildwood Avenue Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Carey West Jr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Croft Chapel Cemetery in Turtletown with David West, Tyler Haney, Richard Payne, Danny Prince, Neil Haney, James West, C.L. West and James West Jr. serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
