Vernon “Dane” Meador, 69, a resident of Cleveland and formerly of Sophia, W.Va, passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 6, 2011, at the residence.

He was the son of the late Elizabeth Vaught Meador and Frasure Meador. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frieda Wilson.

He worked as a community officer for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and was grounds crew supervisor at Lee University for 14 years where he retired.

He enjoyed woodworking, singing and playing his guitar. He was a member of Pine Hill Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Meador, of Cleveland; son, Dennis Meador and his wife, Diana, of Hobbs, N.M.; daughters: Danita Swafford and her husband, Don, of Riceville, Kimberly Bohm and her husband, James, of Cleveland; grandchildren: BM2-SW Andrew Wood, USN, and his wife, Jessica, Krista Wood, Alisha Jenko, JulieAnn Elam, Luke Elam, Kara Bohm, Cody Bohm and Sgt. Benjamin Jaeger USMC; great-grandchildren: KimaLee McHone, Kaleb Taylor, Maggie Moore and Paxton Jaeger; sisters: Wanda Martin and her husband, Roy D., of Cleveland, Sandra Sears and her husband, Russell, of Glen White, W.Va.; and brother-in-law, Howard Wilson of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Roy D. Martin officiating.

Interment with graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, W.Va., with family serving as pallbearers.
