SWEETWATER — Sweetwater used its long-range offense to shoot down the Polk County Wildcats in a District 5-AA basketball game Thursday night.
The home Wildcats connected on 10 3-pointers against the visiting Wildcats in the late-season game.
High-scoring Corey Billingsley, who has signed with Lee University’s Flames in Cleveland, hit three of Sweetwater’s long shots and totaled 17 points for game honors. Teammate Trent Walker had the highest production from downtown with four 3-pointers for 15 points.
Center Logan Brewer sparked the Wildcats of Polk County coach Rusty Brewer with a 14-point production, while guard Alex Akins added 11 to the Polk County total.
Sweetwater did most of its damage in the opening quarter, jumping on Polk County for a 17-8 lead. The visiting Wildcats could make little progress the rest of the way, remaining around 10 points behind through the final three quarters.
Sweetwater outscored Polk County again in the fourth quarter, 15-12, to clinch the victory.
