He was the son of the late Lillian Baxter Dalton and William Dalton.
He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the U.S. Navy, in the Seabees.
He worked as a pipefitter for many years. He was an avid high school and college softball and baseball fan. He was known for his charitable giving especially to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Disabled American Veterans Association and to the Indian Children’s Organization.
He attended Mountain View Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sister, Shirley Rose Dalton Green and her husband, Billy, of Southgate, Mich.; aunt, Lois Hawkins of Chatsworth, Ga.; his uncle, Lester Baxter of South Carolina; his nephew, Randy Lynn Green and his wife, Peggy, of Wyndotte, Mich.; his great-nephews: John and Adam Green, both of Wyndotte, Mich.; and several cousins and other extended family members.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the Wildwood Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Homer Roberts officiating.
Graveside service and interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday from the U.S. National Cemetery in Chattanooga with Randy Green, Bill Green, Morris Swafford, Bill Chamlee, Roy Hardin, Darrell Matthews and Tony Hardin serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be given.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
