She was a member of Candies Creek Baptist Church and served as a volunteer at The Caring Place.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1941, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.
She studied law at Havana University, worked as a government lawyer and served as a judge for the District of Playa in Havana, Cuba.
Due to her disagreement with the politics of Fidel Castro, she became a writer for a newspaper, was put in prison and treated very badly on various occasions. In 1996, she was granted political asylum in the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas and Carmelina Nardo.
Survivors include three brothers: Nicolas Nardo of Miami, Orlando Nardo and Arsenio Nardo, both of Havana, Cuba; one sister, Yolanda Nardo of Havana, Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Candies Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Jamie Work officiating.
