A native of West Virginia, he was raised in a Christian home and introduced to gospel music by his parents. Squire has served as interim music director, church soloist, elementary school music teacher and high school band director. In 1979 he went into solo ministry.
In 1981, his song, “Sweet Beulah Land” was voted “Favorite Song of the Year” by Singing News. Some of the other classics written by Parsons include: “Master of the Sea,” “ I Sing Because” and “ I Go To The Rock.”
In 1990, Squire was presented the coveted Martin Norcross Award, given for devotion to family, service to church, involvement in community affairs, and contributions to the gospel music industry. In October 2008, he was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame, in Pigeon Forge.
He has been the guest soloist at First Baptist Church, Atlanta; Thomas Road Baptist in Lynchburg, Va., and was with Billy Graham at the Little Rock Crusade in Little Rock Arkansas in 1989.
