The Golden Tigers quickly erased any chance of a Lee upset by sweeping the three opening doubles matches. The visitors insured the important SSAC win by collecting victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches.
The Lady Flames did get impressive singles wins from Sara Anic, who defeated Brenau’s Hannah Thompson, 6-3, 6-2 and from Tarah Gardner who whipped Eline Nagels in the No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3. In doubles play, Anic teamed with Kassidy Sherlin in a hard-fought battle before falling 9-8 (7-1 in tiebreaker).
The defeat drops Lee to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in SSAC play. Brenau climbs to 5-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
The road does not get any easier for the Lady Flames. They will travel to Chattanooga on Wednesday afternoon and challenge the Lady Mocs. Cavett’s group will return to the DeVos Center on Saturday morning and join the Lee men in hosting Cumberland University at 10 a.m.
