It’s not just about the pancakes.

Of course, their aroma will be mouth-watering, and the fluffy, syrupy morsels will melt in your mouth while pleasing the palate aplenty.

It is time for the Kiwanis Club of Cleveland’s annual Pancake Day, scheduled for Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.

Unless you just abhor delicious food, wonderful people and youth-oriented community causes, you should consider attending.

Ticket cost is $6 although you can qualify for a dollar discount by presenting a coupon clipped from the March 23 edition of the Cleveland Daily Banner. Just present the coupon at the door and your $6 homemade breakfast will be yours for only $5.

Children age 5 and under will eat free.

The site for the morning of breakfast delight is the Bald Headed Bistro at the Village Green. Kiwanis Club members have lined up a capable team of event sponsors, one of which is this newspaper. Others are naturally the Bald Headed Bistro, as well as Cooke’s Food Store, Mayfield Dairy Farms, Kingsway Press and the Village Green Town Center.

All sponsors are no strangers to humane causes nor are they foreign to our Cleveland and Bradley County hometown which has a rich tradition and time-tested heritage of neighbors helping neighbors, people aligning for the benefit and well-being of other people and organizations giving their time, talents and energy for the most deserving in our region.

Why attend this year’s Kiwanis Club of Cleveland Pancake Day?

It would be quicker to list the reasons for not attending because it is far more brief.

But let’s stick with the positive.

Attending Pancake Day will guarantee a delicious Saturday morning breakfast, and what better way to kick off a weekend?

Attending Pancake Day is appropriate for any weather — in rain, pancakes are warming; in sunshine, pancakes are refreshing.

Attending Pancake Day gives you a unique time away with friends or family or both, especially if you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house.

Attending Pancake Day is the perfect start for a Saturday of spring cleaning; a nutritious meal empowers the body and mind, and jump-starts a daylong supply of energy.

Attending Pancake Day, speaking of spring cleaning, lands on the same Saturday as Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day at the Tri-State Exhibition Center; use the pancakes as a springboard for returning home to round up all that needless clutter in the garage that should be disposed of properly and take it to the HHWCD event (from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Attending Pancake Day will get you moving so right after breakfast you can keep the momentum going by getting started on growing season shopping for seeds, mulch, flowers, soil additives and all tools of the trade that will bring a deeper green to your spring.

Attending Pancake Day will support Kiwanis Club of Cleveland members who are giving their time, talents and resources to fund a myriad of civic projects.

Attending Pancake Day will help Kiwanian initiatives geared toward developing the minds, bodies and opportunities of young people in our community.

At the very least, you can attend Pancake Day because it is fun.

And the pancakes taste great!

Take a date.

Take your family.

Take your buddies.

Take whomever you like.

Just be sure to take your appetite.
