EDITOR’S NOTE: This is third in a series of the S.S. Minnow journey as ambassador for Chair-ries Jubilee event April 15.

“The travelers set ground this week in the Andrew Johnson Bank. They are here for a weeklong stay — to the sponsor we say “thanks.” The table, chair and bucket lamp ... from the Minnow they did come.

“But soon they will find a resting place in somebody’s home, in somebody’s home. So get your wallets ready to spend some extra cash to support arts activities at the Chair-ries Jubilee bash.”

Art pieces inspired by television’s Gilligan’s Island set sail from First Tennessee and docked at Andrew Johnson Bank this week on their community tour as traveling ambassadors for the 2011 Chair-ries Jubilee fundraiser, “Lights, Camera, Auction!”

The three-piece set is comprised of a table, chair and minnow-bucket lamp donated by folk artist Judi Andrews.

The traveling ambassadors are promoting “Lights, Camera, Auction!” for the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce to promote the arts fundraiser, set for April 15 at the Museum Center at Five Points.

Money raised at the annual arts auction will fund Teacher Arts Grants, Artists in the Schools and other arts activities in the Cleveland/Bradley County community.

The event will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction at 8 p.m.

“We appreciate some of our corporate sponsors becoming ports for these pieces inspired by the S.S. Minnow from Gilligan’s Island,” Nancy Casson, committee chairman, said. “Putting just a sample of the furniture pieces on display gives us a chance to showcase the quality items you’ll be able to purchase at the auction.”

Casson continued, “With movies, Broadway shows and television series acting as inspiration for the artwork, we’re sure to have some excellent pieces this year. We’ve already had donations inspired by ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,’ ‘Pretty in Pink,’ ‘Sponge Bob Square Pants’ and ‘The Farmer’s Daughter.’”

Tickets are available at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce and The Red Ribbon for $20.
