From April 17-20, more than 200 clinicians from across the nation are gathering in Cleveland for the Directors of Nursing 2011 Annual Meeting at the corporate headquarters of Life Care Centers of America.

“Life Care’s directors of nursing have what is generally recognized as the most demanding job in the long-term care industry,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president.

“Life Care began hosting an annual meeting for these dedicated nurses in 1991 in order to (1) get to know them better personally, (2) provide inspiration and motivation for the mission to which they are called, and (3) afford networking opportunities for these clinicians. We are blessed to have them in our company and honored to have them in town for this meeting.”

Following the theme, “Love Is Our Foundation,” the meeting will emphasize the importance of providing quality care and developing relationships with residents, family members and the community. The meeting will also provide a forum for nurses to share their experiences with their peers.

The four-day meeting begins today with a breakfast. Music will be provided by The Red Roots. Nurses will participate in their choice of activities, which include dementia practitioner training, whitewater rafting, shopping, a trip on the River Gorge Explorer and a trip to Mercier’s Farm in Blue Ridge, Ga. On Sunday evening, participants will enjoy a Hawaiian luau.

The annual Directors of Nursing Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, during which nurses from each of Life Care’s seven divisions will be recognized for superior patient care.

Life Care’s highest honor, the Mary Denton Award, will be presented, as well as the Company-wide Director of Nursing of the Year Award. Facilities that earned Joint Commission accreditation during 2010 and facilities that received deficiency-free nursing surveys will also be recognized.

Special guest speakers for the week include Dennis Swanberg, James Marcum and Dale Henry.
