Eddie Phillips, 58, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, April 19, 2011, at the family residence.
He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and owner of Eddie’s Auto in Benton.
He married Debbie Massengale and they would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in May. They owned and operated their own business for 17 years.
He loved his wife, his children and grandchildren with an everlasting love. He and his wife, Debbie, were devoted Tennessee Vols fans. He loved NASCAR, boating, golfing, camping, his family and friends. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone he met. He was an excellent and gifted auto repairman. He was a true friend and family man. He will be remembered for his personality and integrity and he will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Frankie Jordan Phillips; brothers, Leon Phillips and David Phillips, and brother-in-law, Glenn Britt; father and mother-in-law, Steve and Phyllis Brown Massengale; and lifelong and special friend, Bill Helms.
He is survived by daughters: Samantha (Jimmy) Lackey and Priscilla Williams; grandchildren: Madison, Makenzie, Charlie, Mollie and Carter; sisters and brothers: Bobby (Caroline) Phillips, Skeet (Ruth) Phillips, Jerry Phillips, Linda (Steve) Rakestraw, Chris (Gerald) Still, Carol Britt and Judy Phillips; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at The Dwelling Place Church, 523 Urbane Road in Cleveland, with Pastors Jamie and Judy Jacobs Tuttle officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Chuck Maddux, Steve Sullivan, Mike Goodwin, Mike Woody, Breck Helms, and Kyle Harris serving as pallbearers. Chuck Atchley will be an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 this evening at Grissom Funeral Home.
