A longtime partner with The Ark in providing pets in the Ocoee region with veterinary care and supplies, the PETCO Foundation awarded the subsidized adoption fee grant in an effort to increase the number of dogs adopted, during a time when adopting a healthy pre-vetted pet is difficult for many loving homes.
The first quarter of 2011 saw an increase of more than 200 percent in adopters who used the PETCO grant funds over last quarter 2010. This translates to an increase in adoptions.
All these dogs received comprehensive veterinarian care before adoption. Though a No-Kill Shelter, each time a dog is adopted, it makes room for a new life to be saved, by coming on board The Ark.
Dozens of calls are received at the No-Kill all volunteer shelter each week on behalf of wayward pets, and pets who must be given up due to domestic circumstances. Calls are also received from individuals who adopted a pet in good faith only to find it has not been seen by a vet and needs medical attention, which the adopter cannot afford. The PETCO Foundation grant has allowed quicker turn-over times, while providing a loving environment.
In the wake of the success of the subsidized dog adoption fee grant program, a grant request to offset cat adoption fees, has been submitted to The PETCO Foundation.
Low adoption fees, comprehensive vetting, and increasing the number of lives being saved is a dream come true for pets who are able to board The Ark.
