The Ocoee Middle School golf teams traveled to Springbrook Golf Club Monday to compete in the Cleveland Area Middle School Golf District Tournament and came home with two wins. It took clutch scoring on a sudden death playoff hole for the Lady Colts to defeat the Lady Raiders of Cleveland after the scores were tied after the regulation holes.
Haley Ellis, Katie Medley, and Olivia Lee came through on the first playoff hole with a one over par total to secure the win. The trio had nine-hole regulation totals of 48, 51 and 52 respectively.
Cleveland Middle finished second, led by Heidi Barringer’s nine-hole score of 45. Riceville Elementary finished third.
The OMS boys were equally successful in their side of the tournament.
After struggling to a 46 on the first nine, Ira Lee finished strong with a 39 on the second nine, finishing with 85 to lead the Colts to the 15-stroke victory. Lee’s score was good enough for a second-place individual finish. Dylan Lillard fired a stellar 87 to help pace the Colts. The mark was good enough for third-place individual honors. Cory Rollins and Baylor McGowan added a 95 and 96 to add to the team total of 363 for the 18-hole event.
Perennial power Riceville Elementary finished in second place with a 378 and Athens Jr. High School finished third with a 393.
The Lady Colts and Colts, along with the second and third place finishers now move on to play in the region championship tournament at Creeks Bend Golf Club in Hixson Monday
