“Everything we do affects our bodies,” Dr. Marcum said. “Modern life is hurting us ... Our lifestyles have created many of our health problems ... One in five dollars spent is spent on health care.”
In addition, despite the improvement in medical care around the world, the current state of health is not getting better.
These are astounding statistics.
But Dr. Marcum is sincerely adamant about letting people know how they can have a truly healthier and happier life by following God’s health guidelines in the Bible.
“God is interested in your health,” Dr. Marcum said. “And I would like people to consider following the tenets set forth in the Bible.”
By following God’s Biblical health guidelines, Dr. Marcum feels that much of the current health crisis of modern society and the way it is handled by modern medicine could be prevented or minimized.
A strong statement, perhaps. Most people don’t look to the Bible for medical advice.
But Dr. Marcum feels he has some strong evidence that by following Biblical health guidelines people can improve their health and their happiness.
Now, don’t misunderstand him. There is a place for modern medicine. There is a place for lifestyle changes. But, and this is key, he feels people need to have a relationship with God to have balance in their lives and true health. He is saying we need a balance led by the Great Physician.
“God has put a burden in my heart,” he said. “As a Christian, I am called.”
He has written several books and magazine articles on health from a Biblical perspective.
His latest book, “The Heart of Health/Avoiding Deception,” will soon be available nationwide. In it, Dr. Marcum addresses issues that are normally overlooked by the traditional health care field. Dr. Marcum wants to help uncover some of the traditional ways in which people retained their health centuries ago and are still viable today in modern society.
“In my book, there are specific Biblical treatments that will help change a body’s chemistry,” Dr. Marcum said. “This might include appropriate rest, hydration, good nutrition, having better relationships and even worshiping ... the book talks about the causes of disease, which might be a solution to our nation’s health care crisis.”
And, the most important way people can do this, Dr. Marcum genuinely suggests, is for people to consider following God’s Biblical health guidelines today.
“If you break God’s health laws, your chemistry changes,” he said. “We were never made to eat all the things we’re eating today.”
We were made to have a relationship with the Great Healer, he said.
“It all starts with a relationship with God to learn truths in the Bible that can change your chemistry,” he said, “and maybe your health. There is more to healing than treating a symptom. It’s treating someone’s soul. There is always hope in a relationship with God. God is the Ultimate Healer. At the heart of health is love.”
Dr. Marcum now also is developing a Biblically based weight management plan.
In addition to being a physician, Dr. Marcum gives seminars. He has appeared on several television shows, including PBS, Fox Family and Three Angel Broadcasting. He runs the non-denominational ministry — HeartWise Ministries. Its mission statement reads, “HeartWise Ministries is dedicated to helping God’s children find the Biblical truth in this over-marketed society ... a unique ministry in today’s world for those seeking truth. We believe the truth in the Bible leads us to love and this is the ultimate path to healing, which includes both the physical body and spiritual self.”
Dr. Marcum also produces a television program — “Heart of Health” — which can be seen on a variety of stations, including My Family Life TV, Retro Television, NRB Network, CNL, and NRB over the Internet. The radio program “HeartWise” can be heard weekly on the radio in more than 900 cities.
