Arch Chemicals Inc. consistently supports education in Cleveland and Bradley County. Its seventh contribution since 2005 to the Bradley Cleveland Public Education Foundation was recently presented to Lynn Voelz, executive director of the foundation, by Teresa Longwith, administrative assistant, on site at the local facility in Charleston. The gifts from Arch Chemicals to the foundation have historically supported academic mini-grants to teachers and classrooms in both the city and county schools.

During the 2010-11 academic school year, the Arch Chemicals-supported grant was awarded to Prospect Elementary School. Pam Coffey, Prospect’s instructional support coach, states the grant monies were used to purchase a computerized mathematics program called STAR Math, benefiting all 276 students in grades one through five.

“This unique program enables teachers to readily supplement grade level classroom instruction with remedial or advanced math exercises. Additionally, the program will provide data that allows teachers to measure individual student progress and make changes accordingly,” Coffey said.

In thanking the company for their gift, Voelz said, “The generous contributions from Arch Chemicals have tremendous impact in the classrooms of our local schools. Gifts such as this enable this Foundation to accomplish its mission— to partner with Bradley County and Cleveland City Schools to raise community awareness, gain financial support and enhance teaching and learning.”
