Ruth Dunn Bookout, 93, of Etowah, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, at a local health care facility.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Taylor Bookout; parents, Reed and Ella Dunn; one sister, Nell Ellis; one brother, Bill Dunn; and a great-grandson, Nathan Saunders.

She was the oldest member of Double Springs Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 60 years. She was a Methodist youth fellowship leader for Wesleyanna Methodist Church.

She was a Girl Scout leader from Brownies to Curve Bar Rank, the oldest member of the Claxton Home Demonstration Club for over 60 years, and she was the last president of the Parent Teacher’s Organization at Etowah High School.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue Ann Bookout Glass; four grandchildren: Cindy Clark Arnwine, Shane Clark, Holly Clark Saunders and Brittany Glass; one sister, Helen Kirk; nine great-grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew, Grant and Ansley Arnwine, Weslee and Macey Clark, Lily Saunders, Ryan Sluder, Landon Glass; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 30, 2011, at Double Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Elkins and Steve Morgan officiating. Interment to follow the service at Double Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m., today in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.
