Syntha Scoggins, 84, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, in a local health care facility.

She retired after 42 years of service from American Uniform Co.

She was a member of Bancroft Church of God and was a volunteer at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Chattanooga Central High School, Class of 1944, where she was a member of the Purple Pounder basketball team.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Scoggins Jr.; brothers: Homer LeRoy Jr., Raymond LeRoy, Billy Joe LeRoy; and sister, Ann Lewis.

Survivors include her son, Eddie Scoggins and wife, Susan, of Cleveland; grandchildren: Jeff Scoggins, Julie Quinn and husband, Brian, of Cleveland and Charissa Newby and husband, Eric, of Ooltewah; seven great-grandchildren: Skylar Scoggins, Brandon Scoggins, Erica Newby, Jacob Newby, Emily Quinn, Kinsey Newby and Brylee Newby; brother, Lawrence Franklin “Dick” LeRoy of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Sears officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery with her nephews serving as pallbearers.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
