He was self-employed with his lawn service. He loved his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Emma Sue Matlock and James McDermott; father, Willie Tolbert; brothers: Ronnie Lee and William Roy McDermott; sister, Lisa Kay Newsom; and grandparents, Ruby and Jesse Daniels.
Survivors include his children: Daona, Steven Jr., Tylan, Kamori, Janasja and Jaciya McDermott, Damatre Johnson and Shamezz Brabson; brothers: James McDermott Jr., Bryant McDermott, John, Jeffrey, Willie Jr. and Jesse Tolbert and Willis Broyles; sisters: Effie King, Rubenia (Alonzo) Moore, Michelle Wade, Pam (Anthony) Bishop, Tam (Angelo) Frith, Kim (Edward) Russell and Maria Tolbert; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and special friends.
The body may be viewed, Friday, June 24, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark AME Zion Church, 707 North Jackson St., in Athens.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the service time at 5 p.m. The Rev. Leuty McDermott will be officiating.
Floral arrangements may be delivered to the church after 1 p.m. on Friday.
