Lester Carl Wright, 77, a resident of Georgetown, passed away Saturday evening, July 9, 2011, in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was the son of the late Hershel Wright and Millie Hixon Wright. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Homer Wright, Howard Wright, Delmas Wright; and his sisters: Rosa Lawson, Anna Robinson and Linnie Friddell.
He was a 1951 graduate of Birchwood High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed studying and researching genealogy, and was an avid collector of fossils and Indian relics, often taking them to local schools to show to students. He enjoyed wildflowers and would take time to hunt for rare ones and then grow them in his garden. Reading books was also something he loved to do, along with writing songs and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marie Wright, of Georgetown; two daughters: Cindy Stokes and her husband, Keith, of Cleveland, Lisa Wright Bowman of Cleveland; six grandchildren: Joshua Stokes, Daniel Stokes, Amanda Stokes, Brandi Williams, Michael Bowman and Jason Bowman; two great-grandchildren: Alissa Bowman and Breanna Bowman; two sisters: Jessie Goodwin of Birchwood and Ruby Lawson of Athens; one step-great-grandson, D.J. Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at noon Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Charles Kilgore officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in McInturf Cemetery with Joshua Stokes, Daniel Stokes, Michael Bowman, Jason Bowman, Mike Williams and Frank Friddell serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
